So, today a Rocket has been crashed on to the moon to see if they have water up there.
What i don't get is...... if the Americans really landed on the moon in the first place, surely they would have known if there was water on the moon then????
Or - am i missing something?? _________________ In a perfect world, every dog would have a home and every home would have a dog |

think if i remember right i heard something on the telly news about someone else (poss china or india) reckoning there's water on the dark side of the moon and the Americans only went to the light side or something along those lines guess they didn't explore the whole moon _________________ why do feet smell and noses run?

| They are also trying to crash into it hard ('cos it's quicker and easier than trying to drill into it after landing) as it's as easier way of exploring further beneath the surface of it. |

I can't think of one good reason to spend that much money but maybe I'm missing something. It also seems very destructive and disrespectful of something noone owns and a lot of people love.

I think the reasoning behind this is that if there is water on the moon, then when our species does explore beyond our planet, it makes far more sense to leave earth's heavy gravity with empty water tanks and fill up on the moon with far less gravity.
lor138 asked: | Quote: | | if the Americans really landed on the moon in the first place, surely they would have known if there was water on the moon then???? | Not necessarily. They only went to a very tiny part of the moon, which although smaller than the earth is still pretty jolly big If someone landed in the middle of a desert on earth, without seeing it's glorious blue wateryness on the way, it wouldn't be obvious there was water on earth. I'm not aware of any test one could do by drilling a probe or suchlike, which is why they devised this odd experiment.
Tantalisingly, on R4 this morning, I heard one of the scientists saying that although they haven't crunched the data yet, there was one thing that really surprised them... he didn't elucidate any further, sadly. _________________ “I was not. I have been. I am not. I do not mind.”

Hurrah for Fia!
I just wonder that when the first apes jumped out of the trees and started to use fire, did some apes sit around in trees and say "oohh ahahaha og ugg ahahaha" which roughly translates as "why are they down their wasting their time with this fire stuff? whats wrong with eating food raw and living in trees?"
And anyway, we'll have soon have screwed up this planet and we'll need another one...

Horrifyingly, the Yanks would sooner look for a new place to pollute than get with the programme and start doing something to clean up their act.
